Independence

It's kind of a bummer to be looking back on the fourth of July, and not forward to it (we'd been bouncing ideas back and forth for the Independence Day art since December of last year). Even with the tinge of disappointment, there's certainly some relief from the stress.

This project had two firsts for Cupmunicate: blue cups, and the use of both sides of a single overpass.

We're pretty devout Hefty cup users (it's hard to explain why until you've tried) but were having a hard time finding any in blue. We called around various local stores and checked online, but to no avail. Finally we noticed that the amazon page we use to order our red cups had a blue option. Excited, we attempted to order but couldn't find any way of specifying that it was blue cups that we wanted. We both tried to call the customer service and found less than helpful service. They essentially told us we were playing cup color Russian Roulette.

We took our chances and made an order of 600; unfortunately we were sent red. After Steve tried to spray paint the cups and I called every party or grocery store in Utah we were beginning to feel we might have to go without the blue. The morning of the project we decided to stop by the Fresh Market a few blocks from my home. Much to our excitement they had the blue 9oz cups we'd been searching for. Not only that, but 25% less expensive than our usual bulk purchases.

We have some pictures up of the project on our facebook page that were taken from my phone, and hopefully some more professional ones soon.
